China Demonstrates Next-Generation Internet Technology

China's next generation Internet technology, called CERNET2/61X (China Education and Research Network 2), has passed the examination of the NDRC (National Development and Research Commission) on September 23 and is likely to be commercialized in 2008. The technology is expected to speed up the development of China's homegrown IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) network, which has been constructed by five Chinese telecoms and is expected to enter trial test by late 2006.
